Beijing Municipal Health Commission: Number of testing agencies up to 67
Beijing recently added another 21 nucleic acid testing (NAT) agencies, bringing the total number of such agencies to 67 in the capital. At a press briefing on COVID-19 prevention and control in Beijing held on 11 May, Gao Xiaojun, spokesperson for the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, noted that Beijing's daily testing capacity has increased to 48,000 samples and is able to meet the current need.
To ensure ready access to nucleic acid tests, 116 sample-taking sites have been set up in medical institutions, designated quarantine centers and hotels across the city. A team of over 530 professionals has been put together to collect samples and administer tests at staggered hours for citizens after appointments are made online or by telephone.
Some districts have started to provide drive-through testing which is safer and more efficient. People can have their samples taken in 3-5 minutes without getting out of their vehicles. Appointments can be made with the Beijing Physical Examination Center, who will then collect samples at factories or businesses as a way of helping them reopen.
