China, African countries share COVID-19 knowledge via videolink

To enhance technological support forAfrican countries in their fight against COVID-19, a second videoconference on the China-African countries joint response to the virus was held on May 11.

The meeting concentrated on clinical diagnosis and treatment of coronavirus. Around 150 officials and medical experts from 24 African countries and the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, including Nigeria's Federal Minister of Health, attended the conference online.

Chinese experts introduced in detail the clinical diagnosis and treatment methods of COVID-19 and the application of traditional Chinese medicine in its diagnosis and treatment. They also meticulously answered more than 50 technical questions raised by the African participants.

The African counterparts are grateful to the Chinese side for the valuable support forAfrica's anti-epidemic actions, and said that the experience shared by the Chinese experts is of great significance to Africa. They stressed their willingness to strengthen cooperation with China in COVID-19 prevention and treatment and their expectations of more guidance and assistance from the Chinese side.

The series of videoconferences on the joint efforts of China and African countries in the fight against COVID-19 is co-sponsored by the Department of International Cooperation of China's National Health Commission and the Department of African Affairs ofChina's Foreign Ministry and hasreceived assistance from the Chinese embassies in the African countries concerned.

A total of five events are planned for this series. The first conference was held on April 27. Next, China and the African countries involvedwill exchange information on COVID-19 testing methods, inspection and quarantine, and risk assessment.
