Beijing: Number of medium-risk areas lowered to four
At a press conference on COVID-19 prevention and control in Beijing on 15 July, Pang Xinghuo, Deputy Director of the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control, said that upon assessment, the risk level of Qingyundian County, Xihongmen County and Xingfeng Street of Daxing District is downgraded from medium to low since no new cases had been reported there for 14 consecutive days. Beijing now has a total of four medium-risk areas.
Shi Guoqing, National Health Commission expert and Deputy Director of the emergency response center of the Chinese Center for Disease Prevention and Control noted that in many respects there is still more to learn about the virus, as COVID-19 is a newly-emerged infectious disease. The lowering of risk level will lead to more social interactions as well as more work and life activities for individuals. This will inevitably increase the likelihood of more contacts among groups of people. Thus, individuals need to strengthen preventive measures and keep social distancing. They should wear masks in sites of crowded gatherings and in small and close spaces, and continue to take key prevention measures such as frequent hand washing and disinfection.
