China, ASEAN to boost health cooperation

Co-chaired by China and Indonesia, the 10th China-ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting on Health Development was held via video link on Aug 27, 2020.

Participants in the meeting included officials from China's National Health Commission, National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, National Cancer Center and National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, as well as from the health commission of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

The meeting participants reviewed the health collaboration from 2019 to 2020 under the China-ASEAN cooperation framework, including the progress in the joint fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, and discussed and determined cooperation priorities and projects for the next year.

China said that the country and ASEAN have the same goals and sound mechanisms in health cooperation, which covers various areas.

China also expressed willingness to further enhance cooperation in prevention and control of infectious and chronic diseases, health emergency responses, traditional medicine and hospital management through the four major focuses of the ASEAN Post-2015 Health Development Agenda, the China-ASEAN Health Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding, major cooperation projects including the China-ASEAN Health Cooperation Forum, and the Emergency Operations Center Network for public health emergencies.

Co-chaired by Indonesia and Japan, the 10th ASEAN plus China, Japan and the Republic of Korea Senior Officials' Meeting on Health Development was held at the same time. Chinese representatives attended the meeting, which reviewed the progress of cooperation under this mechanism and determined the focus, mechanism and activities necessary for the next step.
