China, Indonesia to strengthen health cooperation

Yu Yanhong, a member of the Leading Party Members Group of China's National Health Commission and deputy director of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, met with Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Health Dante Saksono on June 6 in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province to exchange views on bilateral health cooperation.

Yu said that the health authorities of China and Indonesia have maintained multi-field and multi-channel cooperation for a long time. Under the guidance of the Memorandum of Understanding of China-Indonesia Health Cooperation and other cooperation agreements, the two sides have established a joint committee as a platform for collaboration and exchanges. A lot of practical cooperation has been carried out in fields such as traditional Chinese medicine, health emergency response and cardiovascular diseases with fruitful results achieved.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides have maintained close communication and exchanges in policies and technologies in the fight against COVID-19, which has contributed to regional health and safety, she added, stressing that China is willing to work together with Indonesia to deepen practical health cooperation, including anti-pandemic cooperation so as to further promote the health and well-being of the people of the two countries.

Dante said he hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in such fields as medical research, traditional medicine, digital healthcare, and personnel training. He also put forward suggestions on facilitating China-ASEAN health cooperation.
