Wang Hesheng, vice-minister of the National Health Commission (NHC) and head of the National Administration of Disease Prevention and Control, met with a delegation led by Ao Ieong U, secretary for social affairs and culture of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), in Beijing on June 8.

Wang reviewed the joint efforts made by the mainland and the Macao SAR in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, spoke highly of the effective COVID-19 prevention and control measures taken by the Macao SAR goverment, and shared the latest progress in COVID-19 vaccination on the mainland.

He said that the NHC and the National Administration of Disease Prevention and Control will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Macao in areas such as infectious disease prevention and control and the construction of a public health system, in a bid to beef up regular COVID-19 prevention and control and to maintain the health and safety of people both on the mainland and in Macao.

Efforts will also be made to support Macao's integration into national health development through practical projects, he added.

Ao Ieong outlined the current measures in place to curb the epidemic in Macao and the progress of the COVID-19 vaccination program. She thanked the central government for its long-term support for Macao's health development, and expressed the expectation that the NHC will continue to provide guidance and support for Macao's epidemic prevention and control efforts.
