NHC vice-minister meets with vice-president of University of Hong Kong

Zeng Yixin, vice-minister of the National Health Commission (NHC), met with a delegation led by Chak-sing Lau, vice-president of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and dean of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, in Beijing on Dec 11. The pair discussed the medical education system, personnel training and medical research in both the mainland and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
Zeng reviewed the past cooperation achievements between the NHC and relevant medical academic institutions in the HKSAR and progress in the cultivation of high-quality health professionals and innovative development of medical education in the mainland.
He expressed the hope that prestigious education institutions in the HKSAR such as the HKU's Faculty of Medicine will continue to maximize the advantages of Hong Kong's role as a "super-connector" between China and the world and draw on international experience. He also called for efforts to expand the circle of friends, explore the best practices in the reform of the medical education system, post-graduation training and medical research, so as to cultivate more outstanding medical talents for the HKSAR and the country.
Lau introduced the considerations of the Faculty of Medicine in promoting high-quality development in medical education and research, noting that he hopes to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with relevant mainland departments and institutions and share Hong Kong's experience, so as to jointly contribute to the development of the health sector in the mainland and the HKSAR.
