Cardio-cerebrovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases plague a wide range of people and remain a high fatality rate. They cause serious damage to health and life and place a heavy burden on individuals, families and society.

A lot of factors contribute to chronic diseases, such as economy, society, ecological environment, lifestyle and genetics. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood sugar, obesity, smoking, unhealthy diet, lack of exercise and excessive drinking are major risks causing chronic diseases.

Insisting on a reasonable diet, proper exercise, quitting smoking, cutting back on wine consumption and a psychologically-balanced healthy lifestyle can effectively ward off chronic diseases.

Every adult should be aware of his/her height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure and blood sugar level. They should go to regular physical examinations to detect early signs and actively take effective measures to reduce the risks of suffering from chronic diseases.

Chronic disease patients should go to see a doctor in time to receive standard treatment, properly take drugs, avoid complications and improve life quality.

Important measures to prevent or treat cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases include prevention and control of hypertension and hyperlipidemia, early detection of coronary heart disease and incipient symptoms of cerebral apoplexy, and timely treatment.

Most cancers can be avoided or controlled. Early detection, diagnosis and treatment are important to the improvement of treatment effects and life quality.

Diabetes treatment should not only bring blood sugar under control, but also keep blood lipids and blood pressure normal or close to normal. Patients should also maintain a healthy weight and monitor blood sugar regularly.

Avoiding tobacco and reducing indoor and outdoor air pollution are keys to guarding against the occurrence and development of chronic respiratory diseases.

Prevention and control of chronic diseases is a common responsibility for of the whole society. The government should take the lead, departments should join hands, and the social mobilization and individual participation should get involved.
