Wang Jian’an – pioneer in heart treatment

Wang Jian’an is president of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, and director of its heart treatment center.

He has made significant contributions to cardiovascular treatment in Zhejiang province and in the country.

He treats over 2,000 people and conducts nearly 1,000 operations on average every year, and is working to introduce new methods in cardiovascular surgery. He has organized many domestic and international forums on cardiovascular treatment, as well as many training courses for grass-roots doctors. He also started a tour program to give lectures to people in more than 20 cities in Zhejiang on how to prevent and treat cardiovascular diseases.

He has long been working in basic research and application of using stem cell technology to treat cardiovascular diseases. His essays have been quoted many times by authoritative magazines such as Cell Stem Cell and Stem Cells. His work, Mesenchymal Stem Cells for the Heart-From Bench to Bedside, was published by Springer, Germany.

He has four patents. More than 50 of his essays have been included in the Science Citation Index. He has taught more than 20 doctoral students.
