At the invitation of the Ethiopian Health Ministry, Wang Pei'an, vice-minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), visited Ethiopia from December 1 to 5 accompanied by relevant NHFPC officials.

At the African Union headquarters, Wang met with Erastus Mwencha, vice-Chairman of the AU Commission. Wang expressed gratitude for Mwencha's support of Sino-African cooperation in the health sector.

He said that China and Africa are actively carrying out the Sino-African public health program put forward by President Xi Jinping to deepen health cooperation. China will dispatch professionals to Africa, carrying out technological cooperation with the AU and advancing construction of the African Center for Disease Control in order to strengthen the African countries' ability in that area.

Mwencha expressed thanks for China's support to the AU and hoped that the AU and China will deepen cooperation in health promotion, improving the accessibility of pharmaceutical products, medical research and disease control.

The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Public Health Cooperation after the meeting.

When meeting with the Ethiopian health minister, Wang said that China has been dispatching Chinese medical teams to work in Ethiopia since 1974, which has played an important role in enhancing friendship between the Chinese and Ethiopian peoples.

According to the agreements signed after the meeting, China will support Ethiopian hospital construction and carry out maternal and child health projects in Ethiopia.

Wang also visited the Chinese medical team in Ethiopia.
