Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the WHO in Geneva on Jan 18. Li Bin, minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), accompanied Xi and met with WHO Director-General Margaret Chan.
Li Bin and Margaret Chan signed a memorandum of understanding for China and WHO health cooperation efforts based on the Belt and Road Initiative, focusing on health emergency response, contagious diseases prevention, and traditional medicine.
Li attended the term extension ceremony for the WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Tuberculosis and HIV. She said the Chinese government has been paying great attention to tuberculosis and HIV prevention and control by improving relevant policies, increasing government investment, and cooperating with the international community.
Li also had a special meeting with Margaret Chan to exchange ideas on how to strengthen health cooperation and promote global health security.
Cui Li, vice-minister of the NHFPC, accompanied Li on the visit.
