The 2nd China-ASEAN Forum on Health Cooperation towards a Health Silk Road

The second China-ASEAN Forum on Health Cooperation towards a Health Silk Road was held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, from Sept 19 to 21.

Cui Li, vice-minister of the National Health Commission (NHC), and Ding Xiangqun, vice-chairwoman of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, attended the forum and delivered speeches.

Cui noted that China and ASEAN countries have had productive health cooperation in recent years, and made great achievements. The health sector has become a crucial part of the cooperation of the two sides.

Cui urged that both parties should strengthen the control and prevention of contagious diseases, implement a health development strategy to promote the development of the health sector, and deepen cooperation in pharmaceutical innovation to boost health innovation.

Representatives from ASEAN countries discussed issues on disease prevention and control, traditional medicine and hospital cooperation.

A China-ASEAN hospital cooperation alliance was set up at the forum and a number of medical institutions of the two sides signed 10 cooperative agreements.

Also taking part in the forum were ministerial officials of health from ASEAN countries and about 600 representatives from the World Health Organization and other international organizations, as well as China's relevant ministries, local health departments and medical and academic institutions.
