Ma Xiaowei, minister of the National Health Commission (NHC), met with Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, on Mar 4 in Beijing.
Ma spoke highly of the achievements the chief executive has made since taking the position including those in the economy and people’s livelihoods. He also hailed the fruitful cooperation between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong SAR in infectious disease prevention and control and pharmacy administration.
He said that the NHC will continue to support health exchanges and cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong. It will give priority to Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development, strengthening the cooperation of medical colleges and health personnel cultivation, which will promote the integration of premium health resources and biomedical technological innovation cooperation to co-build a Healthy China.
Lam introduced the progress in health reform in Hong Kong and said that the SAR is committed to developing basic healthcare, strengthening diseases prevention and control and promoting the development of its public health system including traditional Chinese medicine to meet public health demands.
She said she hopes the Bay Area will boost cooperation by strengthening innovation in medical technologies, sharing the results of scientific research, supporting the construction of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park, promoting private medical institution development and making efforts to improve medical levels.
