In May 2014 (from May 1 to May 30), there were a total of 949,748 notifiable disease reports in the Chinese mainland, with 1,428 deaths. There were three cholera cases; no category A notifiable disease death reports; and no SARS, poliomyelitis, highly pathogenic avian influenza and diphtheria reports. A total of 318,798 cases in 22 category B notifiable diseases were reported, with 1,309 deaths. The most frequent cases were from viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, syphilis, bacterial and amebic dysentery, and measles, accounting for 91 percent of category B notifiable diseases.
At the same time, there were a total of 630,947 category C notifiable disease reports, with 119 deaths. The most frequent cases were from hand-foot-and-mouth disease and other infectious diarrheas and epidemic parotitis, accounting for 97 percent of category C notifiable diseases.
