In August 2014, there were a total of 563,589 notifiable disease reports in the Chinese mainland, with 1,280 deaths. There were seven cholera outbreaks, with no deaths. There were no SARS, poliomyelitis, highly pathogenic avian influenza and diphtheria reports. A total of 304,895 cases in 22 category B notifiable diseases were reported, with 1,249 deaths. The most frequent attacks were from viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, syphilis, bacterial and amebic dysentery, and gonorrhea, accounting for 93 percent of category B notifiable diseases.
At the same time, there were a total of 258,687 category C notifiable disease reports, with 31 deaths. The most frequent attacks were from hand-foot-and-mouth disease, other infectious diarrheas and mumps, accounting for 94 percent of category C notifiable diseases.
