China signs hospital assistance cooperation agreement with South Sudan

Cui Li, head of China's National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) met with a delegation led by South Sudanese Minister of Health and signed a hospital assistance cooperation agreement in Beijing on Dec 9.  

In the signing meeting, Cui praised South Sudan's economic and social development since its foundation and indicated that China will help it improve health service for women and children through hospital assistance cooperation such as medical personnel training. 

The Chinese government will support a project to expand the Juba Teaching Hospital and donate part of its medical equipment with the hope of jointly improving people's health in South Sudan, according to Cui. 

Dr Riek Gai Kok, Minister of Health of South Sudan, appreciated China in supporting South Sudan's development and safeguarding its national sovereignty and expressed gratitude for China's help in sending medical aid teams and providing training in China for South Sudanese medical workers. 

He expressed his wish that China will expand its assistance in South Sudan to offer support in health talent training.
